While John Basilone, another notable Marine, was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions in World War II, his number of decorations does not match Puller’s extensive compiled awards. Ronald Reagan, while a key figure in 20th-century American history and a former President, was not a decorated Marine but instead served in the Army Air Forces during World War II. Similarly, James Mattis, a respected Marine Corps general and former Secretary of Defense, has notable accomplishments but does not have the same level of decoration as Chesty Puller.
